The individual nominee’s primary credit union or the credit union nominated must be a member of the Leagues.*QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITERIA (1) Achievement or service must have taken place during the most recent two years and have resulted in added value to the credit union movement. (2) Demonstrated social impact beyond usual scope of credit union activity. It also will likely go beyond the scope of a single chapter. (3) Greater good to the community is the primary qualification, and actions such as financial education, wellness, social responsibility, mentorship, and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion practices will all be considered. (4) Nominations may be made by a credit union, chapter, affinity group, CEO/managers’ association, or any other group recognized by the League. An endorsement from any of the above-mentioned groups is encouraged for individuals submitting nominations.* Individuals and/or organizations nominated, but not selected in their initial year, remain valid nominees for two additional years, subject to approval by the Leagues’ Awards Committee. Chapter Award of Excellence (Individual Award and Organizational Award)Nominees are individuals who are recognized by their Chapter for their hard work and service on the Chapter level. They may be from the general chapter membership or the Board of Governors. Kim Bannan Eternal Flame Award (Individual Award and Organizational Award)The Kim Bannan Eternal Flame Award recognizes and honors individuals, credit unions, and other organizations making contributions that are pivotal to the survival and success of one or more Shapiro credit unions (credit unions under $174 million in assets).Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement AwardA tribute to California’s credit union pioneer, Leo H. Shapiro, this award recognizes individual excellence in credit union philosophy and the California and Nevada credit union movement. Eligibility is open to California and Nevada’s outstanding credit union leaders by nominations with three endorsement letters from a credit union, chapter, affinity group, CEO/managers’ association, or any recognized group of the Leagues.* The nominee's primary credit union must be a member of the Leagues.QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITERIA (1) An extensive background in credit unions and broad knowledge of the history of the credit union movement. (2) Practical experience and a strategic approach to the organization, development, and/or operation of credit unions. (3) Demonstrated leadership and commitment to the basic credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” (4) Visionary perspective of the future role of credit unions as cooperative institutions. (5) Expertise and dedication to serving as a strong advocate for credit unions.*Nominated individuals not selected remain valid nominees for two years and may retain eligibility by requested annual updates subject to approval by the League Awards Committee. Distinguished Service AwardThis prestigious awards program recognizes credit union professionals’ ongoing, current contributions to the credit union community.
